Pioneers of the tyre
1905: Gislaved produces the first Swedish car tyre.
Swedish giants
1927: the first Volvo rolls off the production line – on Gislaved tyres. The Volvo Original Equipment supplier Gislaved increases its production by a factor of ten.
Impressive numbers – Worldwide Success
1949: the one millionth Gislaved tyre leaves the factory.
1970: about 1,3 million car tyres per year are sold worldwide. Main markets: Sweden, Japan, North America, Canada.
Tyre experts
1983: the tyre production division becomes an independent company and operates as Gislaved Däck.
Expansion and cooperation
1985: Gislaved takes over Viking Däck A/S Tyres.
1987: Gislaved and Viking Tyres merge to form Nivis Tyre AB.
Perfect partnership
1992: Nivis Tyre becomes part of Continental AG, Europe’s second-largest tyre manufacturer. This trendsetting partnership provides the Gislaved brand with optimum development- and production options.
Sales policy with added value
1994: Continental starts multi-brand sales. Gislaved becomes part of a coordinated brand presence and emerges as a specialist in nordic winter tyres also within the Continental corporation.
